How you think about stress matters

As a psychologist I've often had people tell my clients to to avoid stress that they need to reduce the stress in their lives. There is this belief that stress was to be avoided at all costs....but what if they are wrong?

Its time to rethink your thoughts on stress!

A US study found that people who in the previous year experienced a lot of stress had a 43 percent increased risk of dying. But that was only true if they also believed that stress is harmful for their health. Those who did not view stress as harmful but experienced a lot of stress had the lowest risk of dying of anyone, including people who had relatively little stress.

What you need to know to transform your relationship with stress

- When you change the way you view stress, you can change your body's response to stress.

- When we get stressed our heart pounds, we breathe faster, and sweat. We will likely interpret these physical changes as anxiety. It's now time to change you're view and see it as a sign that you're energized and preparing meet a challenge.

- Rethink you're stress response as helpful for performance... and you're body will believe you!

How do we know you're body will believe you? When you can change the way you see stress your physical stress response can change and mirror that of moments of enjoyment and challenge.

So how you think can transform your experience of stress!

What does this all mean?

Go after what creates meaning, it's much better for your health than trying to avoid discomfort.
